Area D

Area D

In the course of the surveys conducted on the site, we noticed that the tel is built of many parallel terraces (we used those terraces to divide the tel into its separate survey units), but that one of the terraces is sloping significantly, connecting a lower terrace with the main part of the tel, just to the south of area B. We were of the view that the edge of the higher terrace, into which the sloping terraces is entering, was the city-wall, and that it is possible that the sloping terrace is a ramp, leading to a city gate.
In the final week of the 2009 excavation season we opened two squares in this area. Due to the limited time of excavations, the results are very limited, and conclusions tentative. Still, in the western part of the area we uncovered what indeed look like a massive city wall, preserved to a considerable height.
